Why GAF Earned the Good Housekeeping Seal

We at Pawcatuck Roofing Co. are proud of our designation as a GAF Master Elite® contractor for many reasons. There’s the distinction of being among the top 3% of all roofing contractors in the country. More importantly, we get to offer some of the best roofing products on the market. In today’s post, your local roofing contractor shares a look at how GAF’s commitment to quality helped earn the Good Housekeeping Seal.

What Is the Good Housekeeping Seal?

The Good Housekeeping Institute was founded in 1885 as a “family journal,” with their publication Good Housekeeping being one of the most well-known publications in today’s home improvement industry. They started the Good Housekeeping Seal as a way to recognize home improvement products of exceptional quality. While there are other similar awards and recognition in the industry, the Good Housekeeping Seal is unique in that it provides a two-year limited warranty that’s independent of the manufacturer’s own coverage.

How GAF Earned the Good Housekeeping Seal

Before the Good Housekeeping Seal is awarded, the Institute performs an independent evaluation of the products submitted to them. GAF currently has 50 products that has earned the Seal, all of which have excelled in the following aspects:

Proven Performance — GAF Advanced Protection® Shingles underwent 185 tests that measured longevity, durability, and weather resistance. Many of GAF’s products are designed for use in extreme weather conditions, and may require roofing repair to a lesser degree compared to standard roofing systems.

Energy Savings — GAF’s Timberline® Cool Series® feature reflective properties that help reduce solar heat absorption, and, in turn, indoor cooling costs.

High-End Design — In addition to quality traditional and laminate shingles, GAF offers Lifetime Designer shingles, which includes options that create the look of tile, slate and European wood shakes, but at a fraction of the price.

Total Versatility — GAF offers products that cater to all price points, climatic requirements and architectural styles.

The Good Housekeeping Limited Warranty

The Good Housekeeping Limited Warranty works like an additional coverage that’s independent of your chosen GAF limited warranty coverage. Products that bear the Good Housekeeping Seal are warranted against defects within the first two years of purchase or installation. The Good Housekeeping Institute will, at their discretion, refund the full purchase price or up to $2,000 (whichever is less) if the product fails within the said period. Alternatively, Good Housekeeping may choose to cover the repair or replacement costs.
